Initiator Seals, ready for use in various applications
Lapped surface for optimized flatness and surface finish
Low cost mass production capabilities
Fusite BV, part of the Emerson group, is specialised in the production of glass to metal seals.
This technology is used to create electrical feed troughs that require specific chemical resistance and air tightness. Their largest market, at this moment, is the application of glass to metal seals in refrigerator compressors, for which Fusite is the global market leader.
The same technology is used in countermeasures, flares and chaff, fired to mislead incoming missiles. Fusite entered the defence market through an offset program initiated by one of the market leaders in flare production. Delivering the flare housings of ignition cartridges Fusite now focuses on market expansion in countermeasures and pyrotechnics.
This assembly is the primary component to a variety of electrically stimulated initiation devices. It consists of a metal outer ring and a center pole and these are completely separated by glass insulation. Spanning the inner and outer conductive parts is a very fine 1 Ohm bridge wire. When a suitable electrical current is passed through this bridge wire, it heats up and if in direct contact, can initiate a suitable pyrotechnic compound.
This product has two primary uses:
Glass to Metal seals, components and assemblies in accordance with our customer's designs and specific requirements. Production volumes can range from single units to mass production of millions.
Among Fusite's capabilities is lapping of the glass-to-metal seal surface for a flatness below 0.001 mm and surface finishes of Ra 0.8 µm and lower. This secures a safe and reliable charging process for the pyrotechnic compound.
Fusite adds value by welding the bridge wire onto the glass to metal seal to achieve a customized electrical resistance rating. Fully automatic processes guarantee a high process capability within tight tolerances, with 100% automatic testing included.
Fusite provides resistance welding and press fit processes to assemble the glass to metal seals into customized cartridge cases in house. Among other, housings can be from Aluminum, stainless steel and Nickel plated cold rolled steel.
Fusite offers high end coating or plating of components; Aluminum Chromate plating per Def. St. 03-18 and high corrosion resistant Nickel plating.
As part of Emerson, Fusite has access to a global network of world class leaders and competitive suppliers. Together with Fusite's global manufacturing presence and commitment to quality Fusite can serve the needs of even the most demanding applications.
