STARCS, member of Sjöland&Thyselius group, is the largest commercial centre of excellence in aerodynamics in Scandinavia.

STARCS was formed from the department for experimental aerodynamics at the aeronautical Research Institute of Sweden (FFA). Including the same staff and resources as under the previous organization, but now privately owned, STARCS represents a business that has been run as a research institute specialized in experimental aerodynamics for 70 years and that has gained a world reputation as a respected institution for aerodynamic research and development.

STARCS holds five wind tunnels spanning speeds from subsonic to hypersonic and a state of the art turbo machine compressor test rig. We offers services in the three principal business areas; Aeronautics, Space and Energy. STARCS´ expertise covers all aspects of aerodynamics within and across these areas, especially experimental aerodynamics, flight mechanics and measurement technique.

STARCS continues to maintain FFA’s position as the principal supplier of services within experimental aerodynamics to many of the largest companies in the Scandinavian defence industry. The hypersonic wind tunnel has also been used to support the development of the European space programme. The formation of STARCS also meant that the new business area “Energy” was defined, specially targeting the growing need for aerodynamic development services in energy and environmental focused markets like the wind energy and road vehicle industry in particular.

STARCS’ resources respond to almost any need for aerodynamics research and development. In addition, through various close and well established partnerships, STARCS can extend its offer even further to cover almost any imaginable need in aeronautical research and development.
