NAMTEC was established in 2002 as a knowledge transfer organisation providing technical information and advice to metals and metals manufacturing companies across the UK. NAMTEC has established itself as part of the knowledge base of the country and provides essential support to a wide range of companies.
In 2005, NAMTEC expanded its activities to include the development and delivery of high level technical training, specifically targeted to meet the needs of the metals and metals manufacturing industries, and the provision of research services through its partnership with Corus' Swinden Technology Centre, along with an extensive network of universities and research and technology organisations.
The expertise of NAMTEC’s technical specialists combined with these organisations enables us to deliver a wide range of research, training and knowledge transfer services including: Project/programme development and management, funding advice, technical assistance and advisory services, knowledge transfer, training, design modelling and simulation services, conferencing facilities and metallurgical / engineering consultancy.
A key part of NAMTEC's role is to communicate with SMEs directly and through our networks and memberships to understand and establish the needs of the sector and individual companies and, to facilitate the transfer of technical information and knowledge between industry and academia, to the mutual benefit of both parties. Our work in this area has led to the creation of new industry-academic partnerships and the creation of a series of collaborative research programmes ranging from the development of high strength magnesium alloys for automotive applications through to the introduction of novel metal-polymer composite structures into the construction sector.
Importantly, NAMTEC also provides a focal point for the UK's vast range of technical expertise in the design, production, fabrication and application of metals. By connecting companies with specialist support and advice NAMTEC is able to help to improve the productivity of individual companies, cluster groups, supply chains and the sector as a whole.
Since 2005 NAMTEC has also delivered an extensive education and training programme to SMEs (and LEs) that has made a significant contribution to enhancing the skills base of the sector and improving the quantity and quality of highly skilled workers.
